The IMechE are holding a one-day seminar titled 'Intelligent Trains - Use of Rail Vehicle Condition Monitoring' on the 20th March 2008 at IMechE, 1 Birdcage Walk, London.
'Escalating demands on rail vehicle availability and reliability mean that equipment for monitoring the condition of the vehicles has become more important during the last 10 years. Its increased use can also be attributed to the introduction of new traction and rolling stock, along with other technological developments.
Robust data management is vital, both for fault finding and planning around asset management and cost. A widening number of key performance measures can be utilised to suit train operators’ vehicle asset management and operating strategies.
A diverse range of systems exist. From equipment for recording and data-logging of performance by self-contained, train-mounted equipment (requiring periodic downloads for maintenance or operational purposes) to infrastructure-mounted equipment with automated, remote download capability. Examples of ‘new fleet’ condition monitoring will be explored, together with opportunities for the addition of condition monitoring on older fleets.
This seminar is the perfect platform to understand the technology available, its functionality and how it delivers business benefits to vehicle availability, reliability and maintenance.'
