RRUK Researchers from the University of Southampton have been awarded with the IMechE Thomas Hawksley Gold Medal 2007 for a paper published in a special RRUK edition of the IMechE Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit (Volume 221, March 2007).

 

The prize-winning paper was entitled “Monitoring the dynamic displacements of railway track” for work funded by the EPSRC under the auspices of Rail Research UK (RRUK). The authors were Dr Daren Bowness, Dr Tony Lock, Professor William Powrie, Dr Jeff Priest and Professor David Richards.

 

The authors attended an award ceremony and dinner at the IMechE in London last week. Dr Bowness, who sadly passed away in July 2005, was represented by his wife, who received the gold medal on his behalf.
