 Users, Community and Environment Welcome

Welcome to the Users, Community and Environment section of the RRUK Website.

Theme C: Users, Community and Environment investigates ways of optimising the railway environment for the user without adverse intrusion on the non-user.

Our initial research focuses on the train environment (noise, vibration and thermal conditions).  A full-scale vehicle environment test facility will be used for a continuing programme of research into passenger and driver comfort.  We are conducting a review of passenger and freight rail user needs, encompassing a broad range of issues including; access to, and egress from stations, security and safety, staffing, station facilities, travel information, journey recovery and aspects of train operations including train frequency and reliability.  We are studying existing models that forecast change, and will enhance models to enable different options to be appraised in terms of economic, environmental, accessibility and safety objectives.  The results will guide future rail research needs.  To find out more CLICK HERE
